Ceasurile mele GPS:
GEO scrie:

First : it looks cool
Second : It can do top of descent calculations in a few seconds to double check the computer. But let's face it, in bigger planes like the a320 you never use it.
In smaller planes though, which every pilot flies at some point during the year, it' amazing.
Why ? Because one calculation takes you maybe 5s with a calculator opposed to 15s with the flight computer except the flight computers does an infinity of calculation. Let me explain :
You're flying at 130kts, 20kts headwind, and you need to know how long it will take you to do 23nm.
Calculator : 23/ (110/60)
Flight computer : 110 on top (above 60) and find the number in front of 23.
But now you need to know how long it will take you to do 17nm, 50nm and 34nm.
Calculator : 17/(110/60), 50/(110/60) etc (you could store 110/60 to gain time)
Flight computer : just read whatever is in front of 17, 50 and 34.
But now you turned and the wind is from the side, you're now going at approx 130kts.
Calculator : do all the math again
Flight computer : move it so that 130 is on top, read the numbers.
And best of all, your flight instructor can't tell you it's failed or out of battery, flight computer will always work!
